ProxyCeptor for Smart TV and OTT Teams: Debug Tizen, webOS and Android TV Without Certificates

In one paragraph

Smart TV and OTT teams use the ProxyCeptor SDK, a script loaded into the TV web app, to intercept and mock API calls on Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Android TV WebViews and similar platforms without installing root certificates or configuring a Wi-Fi proxy. Rules are managed from the cloud dashboard and reach every test TV through a workspace API key.

Problems smart tv & ott teams run into

No certificate store on TVs

Consumer TVs will not trust a Charles or Fiddler root CA, so HTTPS traffic stays opaque.

Slow device loops

Every API tweak means a new build, a sideload and a remote-control walk to the right screen.

Playback edge cases

Testing expired DRM licences, missing renditions or slow manifests requires server changes.

Analytics validation

Checking that heartbeat and beacon events fire correctly is guesswork without visibility.

Workflows that fix them

Certificate-free interception

Add the SDK to the test build and call ProxyCeptor.init({ apiKey }). It wraps fetch and XHR inside the app, so TLS and SSL pinning are untouched. See debugging Smart TV apps without SSL certificates.

Change catalog and entitlement data live

Toggle rules in the dashboard to swap rails, force "not entitled" or expire a subscription. The TV picks them up on its next rule refresh, with no rebuild.

Stream manifests

Mock or rewrite HLS and DASH manifests to test missing renditions and fallbacks. The server-side forwarder can rewrite .m3u8 playlists to absolute URLs. See mocking streaming manifests.

Beacon and analytics debugging

Inspect sendBeacon and analytics calls, including GV1 video analytics events, in the DevTools panel. See debugging GV1 video analytics beacons.

Example

SDK setup in a TV web app (test builds only)
CODE
<script src="https://proxyceptor.com/proxyceptor-sdk.js"></script>
<script>
// Loads your workspace rules and refreshes them every 5 minutes by default.
ProxyCeptor.init({ apiKey: 'sdm_live_...' });
</script>

Frequently asked questions

Which TV platforms are supported?

Any platform that runs your app as a web app with JavaScript: Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Android TV and Fire TV WebView apps, set-top boxes built on HTML5, and hybrid apps. Fully native apps need a MITM proxy instead.

Should the SDK ship in production builds?

No. Include it in development and QA builds only, and keep workspace API keys out of public code.

How fast do rule changes reach the TV?

On the next refresh. The default interval is 5 minutes and is configurable with refreshInterval.
